Though music is the number one thing, appearance does matter for a performing artist.
You represent your music, and yourself.
This is why I have always wanted to put a little more effort in my outfit. In much of bluegrass and country it has always been a part of the art to show respect to the audience and honor the occasion by dressing with grace and dignity.
I searched for a 50’s/60’s style tux jacket for a long time with no results. I’ve seen them on so many of my idols; Jimmy Martin, The Osborne Brothers and Earl Taylor to name a few.
Then I bumped into an old friend, Jukka Huikari, who recommended BQ Räätälistudio, and it turned out they have a store in Tampere, my hometown.
We started planning a tuxedo jacket made of silk as Sanna-Leena in the studio recommended.
Coming from a line of craftsmen and artisans I appreciate the good service and quality work BQ provided. Supporting the local market is also important.
We took some shots for BQ of the jacket while waiting for a gig to start at Sture21 in HKI, and the photos really do show off how nicely the fabric reflects different lights and color in a very stylish way! Perfect for a performer on the stage.
The pictures came out so good they became a whole set. With a retro-feeling, just like the jacket. You can see all photos in a slideshow at the bottom of this post!

Vaikka musiikki on se tärkein juttu, niin myös sillä on merkitystä miltä esiintyjä näyttää.
Siksi olen panostanut aina myös asupuoleen. Bluegrassissä ja country-musiikissa ylipäätäänkin on ollut tärkeää pukeutua hyvin ja siten kunnioittaa yleisöä ja antaa esitykselle tiettyä arvokkuutta.
Pitkään etsiskelin 50/60-lukulaista kiiltävää smokin takkia tuloksetta. Olin nähnyt niitä monen idolini päällä; Jimmy Martin, The Osborne Brothers ja Earl Taylor tulevat ensimmäisinä mieleen. Ongelma ratkesi kun törmäsin pitkästä aikaa entiseen esimieheeni Jukka Huikariin, joka suositteli BQ Räätälistudiota. Kotikaupungistani Tampereelta se löytyikin ja yhteistyö aloitettiin milläpä muulla kuin smokin takilla ja kangaskin löytyi kun BQ:n Sanna-Leena ehdotti silkkistä liivikangasta.
Laadukkaan työn lisäksi arvostan BQ Räätälistudiossa hyvää palvelua ja kotimaisuutta. Käsityöläissukuun kuuluvana nämä asiat ovat minulle tärkeitä.
Kuviakin ehdimme ottaa keikkamatkalla, ja hyvin niistä käy ilmi takin moniulotteiset värit ja miten ne heijastavat eri valoja – tämä on eduksi varsinkin lavalla ollessa!
